Collection is every card you own. Deck is what you've checked off for battle. These are two different things.
How many cards, and where
• Checked in the deck — up to 20 per element.
• Total in battle — however many the Spellbook holds: 30, up to 120 with purchases.
• Entering battle per element — according to your split, from 4 to 20. With no split set — evenly, 5 each.
The split is set with the "−" and "+" buttons in the "Into battle by element" row on the deck screen. The total always equals the Spellbook's capacity: add to one element, and a scroll is taken from another.
Before every battle, the game randomly draws as many checked scrolls of each element as the split calls for. If fewer are checked, the shortfall is filled from that element's starter-set scrolls.
Spellbook
• Base — 30 scrolls.
• Academy: +2 scrolls for 3,000 crowns, several pairs at once, up to 120. Purchased slots start working from level 9.
• The "Apostates" quest gives +3 more.
• When you reset your character in the Mage Tower for a new reincarnation, crowns spent on purchased scroll slots are refunded in full. Reward slots stay.
Scroll charges
• A new scroll arrives with 300 charges. At zero it crumbles to dust. At 20 charges left, the game warns you in chat.
• If you have several copies of the same scroll, the deck lets you check off a specific copy — each tile shows its own remaining charges.
• A charge is spent only by the checked copy, and only if the scroll entered that battle. The other copies just sit there and lose nothing.
• When the checked copy crumbles, the next one takes its place in the deck — the scroll doesn't drop out of the deck.
Tip: check off the most worn copy so you finish it off first and keep the fresh ones in reserve.
Where cards come from
• The city Shop — for crowns.
• The Training Center — scrolls for quests.
• Weekly login rewards — card sets and a capsule with a rare card.
• Expeditions, dungeons, the Technocontinent — loot.
• The Workshop — production with a Librarian's license.
• The Market and the "Golden Hands" stall — from other players.

Checking off 20 scrolls of an element is only worth it if all twenty are equally good. The more you check, the lower your chance of seeing the best one in battle.
