The Tavern is the liveliest building in the city.
Menu
Food restores health instantly, drinks grant temporary effects: to damage, experience, or loot. Each city has its own menu and prices, set by the local innkeeper from the Innkeepers' Guild. The game only enforces the limits: prices from 5 to 500 crowns, healing no more than 120 points and no more than the price allows.
Gossip and tales
Residents bring the innkeeper their stories. After moderation, they appear in the common room.
Liars' Table
A gambling game, accessible from the card in the tavern header of any of the five cities.
• A deck of 20 cards: 6 each of Kings, Queens, and Aces, plus 2 Jesters (a Jester passes for any of them).
• A table card is revealed each round. You lay down 1–3 cards face down and claim they're all the table card.
• “Liar!” can only be called on the last play. A single foreign card is enough to make the claim a lie.
• The loser of the challenge drinks from their own tray. One of the six mugs is poisoned, and the tray doesn't refresh — the odds rise with every sip. The poisoned player is out; the last one standing takes the pot.
• Tables for crowns (stakes 20 / 50 / 100) and for gold (1 / 3 / 5). At crown tables, empty seats are filled by tavern regulars; a gold table with no live opponent is cancelled and the stake refunded.
• The game doesn't touch your character's health.

Stopping by the Tavern before a tournament is standard practice, not a trick: effects stack with other buffs.
